Anyone Find Servers Without Death Messages?

<div class="IPBDescription">Talk about scary.....</div> I'd love to see a server without death messages. I'd love to try one. It would be more interesting if only the commander knew who died. Talk about adding suspense to the game.

You're running to the resource point to backup the other marines already there. You hear a ton of gunfire and alien screams. All grow silent. Do you pop your head around the corner to have a look?

    I didnt know NS had a deathmsgs variable. Even so.....I doubt you will ever see many servers with them off as most ppl are frag wh0res and like to see thier kills being publicly displayed.

    Very muchso, especially if the other idea is put into effect to hide who on the enemy team (and/or YOUR team) is dead/alive. Would REALLY add tension, not knowing what happened. Or getting over the voicecomm "What the f- <*click*>".

    lol. That would be fun. Brings to mind the old beta days of CS when you couldn't tell who was dead on the scoreboard.

    That would make things pretty suspenseful indeed.
    However, in NS dead people can still talk, so people would just say_team "I'm dead!" when they die, making it kind of useless.
    And if I had to send a message whenever I died, I'd rather just play on a server with death messages enabled.

    thats a good idea, adding for more suspense. However, as a skulk I need that message to tell if I killed that marine I just run into. I run in and blindly bite and because I soon lose sight of the marine, if I don't have the message pop up, I quickly turn around and try to hit him again.

    'NO'?

    You make a server variable, like most of the other mods do. You want death messages, then don't play on "no message" servers. Geesh....

    Don't you think he needs it just as much when he's firing into a dark corner and isn't sure if he got you or not? The death message lets him know he did.

    Well here is a CLIENT SIDE ONLY solution. Only those that utilize the "hud_deathnotice_time 0" command will not see death messages. Other players in the game will still see them.


    bind "PGDN" "hud_deathnotice_time 0"
    bind "PGUP" "hud_deathnotice_time 6"

    Just change how long the death message is displayed for. 6 seconds being the default.

    AFAIK, dead player messages are only heard by other dead players or spectators.

    Doing it client side would take out any strategy that would be enabled if it was server side (ie ambushes where noone knows if their squad is still alive)

    Yea yea I know* that but having it showing on the scoreboard is different than on the screen. Sometimes ppl just dont have the time to look at the scoreboard to tell whether or not they have killed the enemy.


    *as I was the leading proponent of NO D/M's for DoD servers and I have heard all this before.
