Back a couple years ago when I was big into NS2, one of the things I enjoyed greatly was spectating a game; watching movement and effectiveness of various playstyles, tactics and weapons.

One very small feature that was quite nice but is no longer in the game is the outline-box on the map, indicating where the screen is showing. I know most of the maps very well and don't NEED this feature by any means but i really do find the experience quite lacking without this one small feature; Both speccing for myself or watching a cast of a game.

Does anybody know why it is no longer ingame?

I assume as a feature early on, it was not really commented on originally as an enhancement to the game. When the time came and a certain update was giving issues with it's code , it was decided just to drop it. Just my guess

Would love to see it re implemented!!

    That... that should still be in the game. You don't see the white box on the minimap?

    no, neither on the minimap or the bigger one when default key C i think is pressed, no white box

    can you try it in training vs bots or sandbox mode? i assume no difference but i can only test in these modes till friday

    This happened to me shortly after build 250 was released (to be clear, I don't think build 250 was relevant). It was very frustrating. Fullscreen didn't fix it. Multiple re-installs (using various techniques) did not fix it. Re-installing the DirectX 9 runtime did not fix it. Changing to OpenGL fixed it, but that's not a solution. Surprisingly, the white box returned to my DX9 NS2 client only after I eventually upgraded my video card.

    yeah I just tested on all four of my computers and none of them are having this issue. Can you please also look at deleting your NS cache? go to your %appdata% folder and locate the NS2 directory, then delete the cache folder from inside. There may be a residual file or something causing this to not show up.

    having trouble locating appdata., hidden files are showing, not found in search.
    generally I would go steamapps->common-> Natural selection 2, within i see no directory file or cache folder

    not sure if this is the correct path or specifically inside %appdata%, where might I find it?

    **edit, after googling %appdata%, I used the windows search and it pulled up a roaming folder. NS2 with its cache was inside.
    deleted cache, restarted steam and still nothing :(

    I also verified integrity of files and folders and all ok.

    My hunch is that it is internet related somehow. Until friday, I am on a satalite internet plan that, when monthly bandwidth is reached(which it is currently), crawls at 150 kb/s MAX speed. Perhaps this is interfering somehow. might be worth it to wait till fibre to test further, but open to new ideas.

    In relation to spectator HuD, I'd love to be able to resize the spectator's minimap(current setting only adjust marine minimap and not spec). If there's a way to do that currently, I'd love to know how ^^

    In regards to spectator UI id love to be able to click on structures. For example an arc to see its effective range. Or click on a shade to see how far it goes... we revamp spec and cant add that in. What is this, amateur hour?

    * Note i have not tried this in like 2 months so if it has been added i stand corrected... but im fairly certain it has not been added
