277 freeze crash

big

attached are a couple of techsupport.exe zip files. Game plays fine for anywhere from ~5 - ~25 minutes, then freezes. Some related posts on steam ns2 forum.

Please run the techsupport.exe at the very moment ns2 has frozen.

Furthermore please use DirectX 9. The DirectX 11 renderer might be causing issues. Also make sure the Texture Handling option is set to 1 GB.

I'm also experiencing this. I will run techsupport.exe when the freezes occurs next time.

If you have a 64-bit OS, the tech support won't get the relevant dump. When ns2 crashes next time, in the background go to Computer and copy &paste the following in the task bar to get 32-bit task manager C:\Windows\SysWOW64\taskmgr.exe.

Right click NS2.exe > create dump file
Then compress it / zip it and upload somewhere online.

I suspect that when the halloween edition is taken offline this bug will go away (until next halloween/christmas update).

I'm also experiencing this. A lot. I also changed my GPU so might be related to that. Never had crashes with old GPU. I Have no problems with other games.

Where was that techsupport.exe? You mean i have to run it before i kill ns2.exe?

"Run Techsupport.exe (located in your NS2 install directory) and attach the zip file it makes to your post. This gives us a log NS2 makes, possibly containing errors, as well as provide us with your system’s hardware and driver information so we can spot issues."

After analyzing your dump it seems like you have the "Failed to allocate 536870916 bytes and will now terminate." - issue. We are currently actively investigating into given issue.

Okay we (the CDT) think we found a fix for the problem. I included the patch into my [Shine] Epsilon Mod. So it would be interesting to know if the issue still occurs on servers running given mods. And if it happens to get another memory dump.
