Is there a way to increase underwater view distance?

I'm coming back from a long break from subnautica and decided to check out the new habitat update and it seems a lot of things have changed.
Wasn't there* a way to tweak the view distance in previous versions? I have the graphics on max settings (Experimental) and even double checked with f3, but it still seems as if i can only see about 30 yards out when underwater. Before i remember seeing endless ocean. I want that back.
