Roleplay Server?

I'm going to start off with saying that I am a Lore Nerd. I love the lore to almost anything I play/read/watch etc. I have been thinking for a couple weeks now, that a Roleplay Server has never even been thought of for Ns2. I know your initial reaction was "Roleplay, what the hell"? But please allow me to elaborate. This Roleplay Server would consist of Ns2 players who love lore, or Roleplay (Obviously). Basic Roleplay, Alien lore would be in heavy use, as well as a little Marine lore too. Aliens would actually have a Power Structure for once, and Marines could have ranks. Limited number of Aliens of all types, very slow paced, easy- going Roleplay, that the faint of heart could definitely handle. For more in- depth information, please ask in thee comments.     Somewhat, it would be more like Marines don't realize that Kharaa are there, and Kharaa don't realize they are spreading into Marine territory.

    If you were to do this, you would need dedicated maps intended for that style of play that would be HUGE!... and you'd probably be playing at gamespeed 50% & damage 0.5. it would slow the game down to a point where you could actually expect to play and not see an alien for the first 2 - 3 minutes.

    Other than that, I'm not entirely sure it would be workable... I'm not against the idea of it, in fact, if someone were to say they were making a roleplaying game set in the NS2 universe, I'd leap at the chance to play it, that would be amazeballs!... but the way this game has been designed, i'm not sure its possible :/

    I am not sure this has been 'designed' as such yet. It seems like the sketching out of an idea.

    I think it has value and could work, but would need a lot of modding activity.

    As a Khammander I sometimes tell my team to go eradicate the alien intruders? Does that count?

    In my experience the best RP in games not intended for it is all about the roleplayers, not the maps or mods. Mods in particular can certainly add some interesting features, but that often ends up just being a frustration or a detraction from what is most important in an RP server: the RP.

    If you ever RPed on the Half-Life 1 mod called The Specialists, I ran the "TSRN" network of servers. I also made the main map that we used, and contracted out a currency mod. Our "rival" (a dude named Rickler) went all-out with some craaazy custom maps and mods for property ownership, jobs, etc. In the end both communities suffered because the RP dwindled while the idling and unused buildings (because the owner wasn't online) increased.

    Anyways, my advice: keep it simple, and keep it private. If you have a core group of folks that are really into RP, that's all you need to have a fantastic time. Proper RPers will respect OOC chat, global "whispers", etc. without the need for complex mods. As for the private aspect: you *will* be trolled like crazy if you don't lock down the server and require tryouts/character profiles/etc. for it... just anything that will require some effort so that you can weed out the fly-by jackasses.

    Good luck with it! I may have to get back into RPing if this gets traction. It'd certainly be a fantastic environment to do it in.

    In my imagination the a kharra don't know that, so to the kharra the marines are alien intruders.

    The kharra basically spread to various areas by some unknown form of direction, and like @Nordic said, they probably see the marines as intruders.

    It would be nice if UWE could create bits of fluff every now and then.

    Thanks for the ideas, sadly I'm COMPLETELY new to the whole creating a server thing, so if someone could do that for me, I'd be VERY grateful, I'd Admin the server so the owner could chill. Also, any modders willing to help with this project?

    I am just glad you didn't LARP a gorge. That could be akward with the spitting, bile bombs, hydras, clogs, babblers, and webs...

    I tend to say things like "Find the Humans and kill them!" I also tend to refer to my team mates as Kharaa Bretheren.
