Exploring the deep dark depths of the sea, investigating a giant cave complex in your Seamoth. With only the difficult spotlight of the sub, the sparse bioluminescent flora, and a flashlight, if you have one, it's very hard to tell up from down. Running out of air, panicking because you can't find the blip, you nearly drown, fortunately getting back in with the last second of consciousness. Alternatively, you drown, losing your sub in the dark depths of a cavern.
Now, a few things that would be useful in that situation is more noticeable lights on the Seamoth. But why not attach a Dive Reel to the submersible? Give it a distance limiter, to stop yourself from going too far out. It gives you more of a reason to carry the Dive Reel late game, as well as being a very practical and logical thing to do.
Alternatively, what about a winch upgrade for the Seamoth? Slightly less practical, but still an idea. Attach it to objects like rocks or dead sea life to move them out of the way, or to yourself to reel yourself back in in am emergency.
