Above you is a picture of a brittle star, a close relative of the starfish that died off a few thousand years ago. They act similarly to starfish, except they use their long tentacl-y limbs to move very quickly across the ocean floor. Now, imagine we took this creepy spider-like starfish, made it creepier, bigger, and extremely dangerous, and threw it into Subnautica. Like it so far? Read on.

The "brittle"
The brittle is an alternative name to the star horde, as I imagine these monsters to move in a large group towards the player. Each of the brittle are quite large, maybe slightly smaller than a boneshark, and they move and spawn in groups of 10 to 20. They have very little health, but can not be frozen by a stasis rifle, making them quite scary for inexperienced and unequipped players. They do damage per second as opposed to damage, and with multiple of them attacking at once you can be killed quite quickly.

Hollow carcass
A new biome idea is a large crater in the ground, with a flat bottom and a giant half-buried carcass of an unknown species. This is where the brittle spawn, and this area is rich in quartz and titanium. lots of "brittle bones" can be found in the area, lying on the floor or buried.

New crafting items
Brittle bones can be harvested from dead "the brittle" enemies, or found in the hollow carcass biome. Using these, you can craft two new items: the "bonesaw" and the "shard rifle" (the latter idea needs some work) The Bonesaw can be made with a knife, eight brittle bones, and four titanium, and acts as an upgrade to the knife item, with a new texture, improved damage, and maybe a quicker swing speed. The shard rifle is a major work in progress, and although I'm not sure, I imagine it's made with slightly similar recipe as the stasis rifle, minus some items, and with brittle bone and extra titanium. It shoots an electrified titanium spike that does more damage depending on how long it's charged; the charge length also changes the trajectory and projectile speed.
