How to survival mode - eat and drink, without leaving ecosystems dead

What I did was use water parks (They're named differently in experimental) and get air sacks in to them. If you have atleast 2 air sacks, they will begin breeding, which is exactly what you need. The aquarium will stop breeding once the population of fish hits 10. One water park will not be enough though, you will need to drink more than the tank will fill up, so I created another tank above it (separated by another multi-purpose room) which will also breed air sacks and eventually I will began to have left over to begin storing,

I did this same thing to the other side of the base, for food, using Renigalds. If you question my progression in making all of this, I'll just say that this place was the perfect place for going through surrounding areas and finding a crap load of quarts. As you can see I don't very many tools, I did this pretty early in the game -I do have a sea moth, and a Cyclops, though-

My entire base (most likely not done ofcourse)

This isn't my first base, I had a small base I had next to my pod I had used to store and create resources to make my seamoth, cyclops, and then continue onward to another area to make another base and progress in the game. This base I'm using for storing and breeding. Now that you can breed, you can start storing excess food away (Do not cook the fish before storing, it will rotten, if you store the fish without cooking it, nothing will happen to it, though this only applies to food, drinks you can just make and store them.

My Cyclops :D..please don't steal my color scheme

And, for breeding, you get baby fishes. You can still store these and cook them just as normally though, they're just like normal sized air sacks.

I have one tank of Airsacks and one tank of Reginalds. That, combined with salt/coral/bleach/water production is more than enough to sustain me on water and food as a new player long before you run out of salt in your immediate area. I still stop to pick up salt when I see it on deeper dives as well.

I have two other tanks that are for breeding testing and sometimes I eat the overpopulation from those. I've released hundreds of fish back into the wild during my testing though. Only a small handful stay around my base.

Great post though - very helpful for those looking to create sustainability early on when resources for the rooms/tanks/habitat are not as easy to come by!

I would say the first thing any new player should build is a round room and tank - put two peepers and two airsacks in there and consantly pull one out as a new baby appears... this will keep you alive until you can find enough resources to build more tanks!
