How about to prolong the whole future of the game. Put in a community aspect of the game. Survivors in other pods. Who can dive to follow you and live in bases you build. Add a community food storage that needs to be kept up. And the ability to bare children that can grow. But the alien atmosphere gives adults prolonged youth and life. Or survivors just randomly re-spawn every once in a great while as per how many days have passed. Add in a sleeping aspect to the game. Maybe to skip night or skip day.
