Hello everyone,
I have been following and playing subnautica for a long time and have seen the team add many things that continue to make this game more exciting and enticing to many people. However people with even a decent computer are finding it hard to play the game with the latest update H2O (My computer stats labeled below). However rather than focusing on how bad computer processing wise the game has become due to this i feel creating a post about hopeful improvements in the next update would help a long way more. I have seen many things in the updates however i havent seen a core update to make the game more playable. Below is a list of things i wish to see in the next few updates.
1. Graphics Settings
The new update to the graphics is nice however the fact that the game is still in need of a somewhat decent build makes it so a lot of people hoping to play cannot. Maybe adding some graphics changes that make the game require less memory and proccessing power would probably go a long way.
1a. Possible Solutions
Lower the resolution of the graphics and create a fog or sphere that is adjustable similar to that of minecraft and many other games to lower how much is loaded at one time. Create a wider range of graphics settings maybe even included in the game menu would help as well. suggestions of settings could be:
Gamma
Texture Detail
Animation level
- Bobbing above water
- Bobbing life vessel and other above water craft
- water animation
Model detail
- where the models for the fabricator were something i personally waited for for a longtime maybe the original boxes were easier to load on some computers
- Water animation and skin
- fish maybe some of them dont need to blink
- Algae forest lots of fauna can maybe do without animation or level of detail
- Sparks and such from hull damage
Shadows
Hatchway animation
Aurora on/off (yes a lot of resources can be gathered there but that is a lot to load maybe having the option to switch it to a different simpler biome would benefit?)
Lighting
- Like fancy and simple lighting in minecraft
2. Audio Settings
The soundtrack is really nice but a long soundtrack or complex one can also lead to loading issues in some games maybe making a simpler version of the soundtrack or more options on levels or whether or not it switches based on biome could help.
3. Water still being rendered in lifepod and underwater bases
i have noticed that even though the bases register as being full of air there is still water and a great deal outside the base is still loaded. Maybe by removing the need for all that proccessing inside the base or arora or similar structures might help with speed boosting.
4. Difficulty settings
Yeah the monsters are amazing and add quite a challenge to the game. Maybe by adding a "peaceful" Setting where negative npcs dont exist might reduce load due to character models in the vicinity.
5. character model loading
There can be a system where only in the loaded are do character models exist. By killing things you can have an agro system that works in reverse so when someone leaves an area after killing lots of things when they return due to their killing spree the game loads an appropiate number of models in the area so it is similar to before. That way the game doesnt need to remeber where everything is all the time it just goes "there was about this many when they left" keeps track of that number and when they return to that area it spawns a similar amount. Then if someone is in a area and doesnt kill anything for a bit it goes "Okay everything makes babies therell be more next time they come"
Now as for some less core like additions i would like to see
6. Automatic gamepad assignment
Having the ability to have the game automatically assign buttons for common controllers such as the xbox 360 controller or a bluetooth connected ps3
7. Aquarium room
A room specifically designed for storing fish and such for examination and food consumption. i feel using the aquarium tanks limits too much the amount i can store in one area and becomes a very expensive way to keep food on hand without using salt.
8. Crustaceans
Crabs and other like fish are a nice way to eat in real life maybe adding a harmful npc that can be killed for food would be nice
9. Big carnivorous fish (that i can eat)
Either making it so i can harvest meat or the fish itself from the existing dangerous fish or adding a new breed of fish where you can kill it for food but is dangerous would be nice. Maybe even have it so more food can be gathered due to the danger involved.
10. Fish/Crustacean trap
a way to set traps i can check occasionally for easily captured fish and possibly my mentioned crustaceans. Of course some sort of bait involved to capture different fish.
11. Hover vehicle
A vehicle that has the ability to hover over or float on top of the water to move from place to place at higher speeds. Jet-ski or small patrol boat?
12. A reason to go to the island other than just diamond.
I see a lot of stuff over by the island but nothing that seems honestly worth my time heading all that way maybe add an alternative fuel for battery cells or some kind of boss fish there? something more of a reason than just pretty sights and occasional resources
13. More to the aurora
Not gonna lie i heard there was an amazing item at the aurora. I worked really hard to get inside that thing and all i find is a energy consumption upgrade for the sub. I didnt even have a sub yet and all i got was something i couldnt even use it wasnt even beneficial really as i find bases and the seamoth more effective. It would be nice to have more of a reason to go through all that trouble than for just a upgrade to the sub and various premade resources.
14. Fuel wells
We mine most of our petroleum out of sources in the sea maybe having the ability to have a seabase attachment that allows you tap into another fuel source that is more efficient than batteries and fuel cells at low depths would be nice. Maybe have it so it can only run on like a special lithium strain fuel cell. you know an easier to locate and gather fuel source but requires a lot to setup but not so much it isnt worth it.
Well that ends my suggestions if you agree with these or have suggestions of your own feel free to add or comment. Have better fix for graphics or rendering and memory feel free to help suggest a better idea. now as for my computer stats.

It doesn't mean that this is exactly how the updates are gonna look, but we could have rough picture where the devs want to take the game.
