Updating and starting a new game.

Greetings and excuse me if this is a very obvious question.
But how often do I need to make a new game in order to enjoy all the new small updates?
For example; I am just downloading the new 400mb patch (the explosive update?). In order for me to experience these new things, is it required of me to start a new game?
If it's any helpful at all, I play on experimental thus I get small updates all the time.

If your on experimental... well it depends on how big the patch is. I'm sure someone here can give a better answer than I can about that. I hardly restart unless it's a pretty damn big experimental patch though.

I normally find that if an update requires you to start a new game you are informed about this when you try to load a save game. You get a message that says something along the lines that you are recommended to start a new game in order to see the new things. You can, of course, ignore this but if the changes in landscape are where you built a base, then you might find your base looking a bit odd.

Smaller updates generally don't require a new game.

Oh I see, I was not aware that it informed you, thanks a lot. I can finally stop restarting the game every few days.

I used to do Experimental, but now I'm staying in stable. More consistency for me

The message to "update" in experimental is typically only added when UWE is about to make a "stable" release that will significantly update the map or other major piece. However, it could be that those changes have been in the experimental branch for a month.

The last significant changes like added wrecks or added farming behavior or new blueprints were integrated automatically into my active game without having to restart.
