Item drop on death

I think that we need to have a body, chest, or container of some sort to hold items upon death. I was playing earlier i had just cleared the Aurora and a good portion of the debris field outside. I did not notice the reaper leviathan that had tracked me down and I died fair enough no problem. However I now have permanently lost power efficiency upgrade module and several signal markers, have also lost a bunch of other things but those can be recreated.
