Somebody new to the game is going to find getting fungal samples difficult.
It's the first power source for your base that you're likely to find.

I don't have a problem with it, I'll just swim to the shroom forest with some extra
air tanks. I've played the game for many months now though.

    For evade the 'first steps' problems with power i just build my base near the volcano. Thats a border area with 3 biomes (kelp forrest, safe shallows, red grass plateu) its located at 7 o'clock from Aurora (12 o'clock - its nose). There is a good place for start (food, resources, solar' powerplant blueprints) and a great view (looking like an sunken ruins of Elf's castle).
