dissecting the Aurora

I've been watching the aurora for a while and simply just taking it apart with what I could see in some things I find very interesting about the ship itself.

you can clearly see the energy reactors on the side of the ship with the big bubble thing. and Whitney radiation scrubbers that we get to go into and repair right next to it it makes sense.

the bridges on top and that j-shape if you could I see the observation deck for piloting the craft you have a large viewing window going across the entire section as well as the advantage point from up there would allow you to talk with docking stations much better than being on the front or side of the ship you can clearly see the communication array as well.

the rear of the ship you can clearly see the conventional drives and above that seems to be a blue patch it looks like that could possibly open up to be a shuttle area. after I'm sure the Aurora has smaller space where the vessels on it.

we can see maintenance hatches and other small docking portals on her sides. I can only assume this is where the life pods are ejected out of.

if the developers read this when the Aurora's on planet and she's already exploded and it looks like theBridges been blown backwards from the force of the explosion it seems to be a metal support beam dripping down from inside of that peace. and from the front of the ship the part that's been blown off and it is actually covered in fire right now if the fire eventually burns out like fire typically does you might be able to have a walking path to get to the top of the ship and then you can walk up to the very top of the ship get up to that Broken Steel Beam sticking out of the Bridge section and repair the long-range Communications relay. Maybe end game? since the Aurora is still being worked on his mostly Hollow.

Omg that spelling lol. That's what I get trying to do this on my phone

This is a long blue patch above the conventional Drives. this looks like it opens up and I'm sure the Aurora has smaller space shuttles on her.

I just wish I had a water cannon upgrade for the Cyclops so I can put the fires out.

Love your dissecting the Aurora. <3

I do like the idea of repairing the ship's long range communications relay, and I hope we will get to explore the ship further in later updates, at least to collect new data and backstory bits.

another thing that she survived impact. I'm looking at the vessels frame you could tell she was not built for atmospheric entry. there's nothing on her that would slow her descent and really her frame would help rocket her faster through the atmosphere, she is designed like a bullet. The fins on her lower belly in the rear look more like they're designed for low atmosphere guidance and stabilisation. suggesting the Aurora is capable of skimming the atmosphere.

this is the one of the biggest reasons I believe she has onboard space-worthy vessels on her. if she could get planet-side there be no way for her to get back up. the thrust required to lift such a heavy vessel to leave the force of planetary gravity would be high.

underneath her belly looks like facilities that are possibly designed for resource extraction and resource processing. I think it's safe to say for the most part those are completely destroyed from the reentry crash.

crew quarters are definitely in the center of the ship mid-section. you could see the viewing ports.

radar equipment is in front of the bridge short-range Communications as well.
then the bridge herself with 80 degree viewing deck. long-range ship-to-ship Communications relay on the bridge. still trying to figure out what that Gap underneath the back side of the bridge is.

inter conventional Drives look like for maneuvering capabilities probably for docking and small-time course adjustments.
The 4 conventional drives are her main out put. from her design and amount of drives on her rear she's capable of pretty good top speeds which you would need for Interstellar travel.
looks like the four main drives create a lot of heat, the silver fins running along the left and right side between the two top and bottom conventional main Drives are for cooling.
Have your coolant lines between those fins, the cold of space will cool the coolant and then can be recycled into the engine cores. a lot like a modern-day radiator for a automobile. I'm guessing she has a max full thrust run time that's pretty impressive.

two brightly-lit portals next to the engines probably service portals for when she's docked. power recharge as well as sewage discharge and water intakes, O2 recycle.

The forward section of the Aurora could have been where the labs were ( after all, this is a biologist's paradise ) since there is a TON of boxes and capsules. Even the occasional fragments appear there...

What I want to know is why bits of the Aurora are STILL glowing orange WEEKS after the crash. UNDERWATER. Seriously, parts the wrecks should have cooled down really quickly. I can see some parts of the main ship staying hot from systems that are still powered, but really pretty much everything should have cooled down pretty quickly.

As for the ships actual design, it strikes me that it has very little in the way of armor. For a ship of it's size, the hull panels are very thin. The extensive structural supports inside it suggest that it gets more of it's hull integrity from internal supports than from the hull material itself. This would mean that the hull, while hard to crush or buckle, could be perforated fairly easily. While not a combat ship, this still strikes me as a design flaw, even assuming that they have some form of energy shields.

It had a mass accelerator in it as well as a dark matter drive core, I'm not that surprised... the place is like a cyclops.... reliable, but when it gets hurt...

If you look at their trello page for developement and dig around for the ladder cards, they are currently working on the animations for the ones on the Aurora. Reason being they are working on another interior. We'll have new areas of the ship to explore at some point. :3
