what you should do if you fall out of your base and cant swim

if you have ever glitched through the floor or a wall, instead of complaining about it you can build a fabricator on the outside walls on your base!

but make sure that you can reach a hatch to start swimming again or else you would be stuck forever...

you can also make a fabricator in a hatch, then deconstruct the hatch, after that the fabricator would be floating outside the base and look weird but still usable.

I don't understand, I've already encountered this sort of glitch but what is the purpose of this exterior fabricator ?

Personally, I solve this problem by always carrying the habitat builder and enough materials with me to build a single i-shaped corridor and a hatch on it. Once you're stuck walking on the ocean floor, just build them and click the hatch once. It will automatically switch you to swimming mode. Deconstruct the corridor after that and be on your merry way.

This has happened to me a couple times. Actually more often from the cyclops than from my base. I just note my position then use warp console commands to fix it. I never use the console to actually do things in-game, but I have no problem cheating to fix bugs.

Having a fabricator outside could be pretty neat though. I'll have to remember that.

console command "warpme" will send you back to your base... should fix the problem. I know, it's happened to me a few times... first time it happened to me I was in the grand reef.... or just have your habitat builder with you... build a connecting tube with a hatch... go in, then back out. should be fine after that too. just make sure you have the mats for the tube and hatch with you!

I've encountered the walking underwater problem too. I'll have to build a fabricater outside next time instead of just entering the "kill" command right away.

The good news is when you're walking underwater, you're still "inside" as far as the game is concerned, so you don't need O2. I glitched out of my cyclops once and found myself standing on the floor of the ILZ chamber... was very glad I had all the time I needed to figure out how to get back.

I did it once and while walking around fell down a hole I dug to the bottom of the world lol, just kept falling forever lol

Nice trick from the OP but I think warpme is the simpler solution. For anyone who doesn't know, the wiki describes how to activate the console. Page seems a little messed up but scroll down to 'How to use'.
