I would like to make power more important and implement the need of other sources. Now, I am good with two solar panels, and a bioreactor that never runs. It is just used as Battery. So these are my suggestions:
1. Energy sources just give the power, but not the storage, maybe a very little storage that you can build basic stuff. The base should have a battery bank like the cyclops, upgrade able, of cause. Just like a device you can build with slots for power cells. This also may act as a battery and power cell recharge station if you will not craft all the juice out of the cells.
2. The energy you need for crafting, depends on the product. Right now, everything you craft is 10 energy units. I would say melting down 10 titanium to 1 titanium ingot should cost way more energy than cooking a fish.

Also the idea that different Fabricator recipe cost different amount of energy to make would be plausible i agree
