Scanner room should be able to scan for harvesting nodes

You know like Limestone, Sandstone etc.

Honestly I'm rather confused over why it doesn't.

Some of the most needed materials are in those, and some like the sandstone deposits can be a real pain to find.

    I'm not really sure how it was so post to work but I think the scanner room is so post to scan what's in the harvesting node so rather then swimming all over ending up with 20 copper 10 titanium and 4 lead the scanner room leads you to the specific material that you scanned for atm though it seems that it only picks up on mats that are dropped or physically in the world like metal salvage
