Why not add an upgrade to the scanner room for the drones to collect resources?

When I first built the scanner room it was totally awesome, but when I was using the scanner to look for resources and went to find them with the drones I had to bring the drone back and collect the materials by hand. So if they had robotic arms or a way to collect resources and bring them back to the scanner room it would drastically improve the uses of the drone. of course, the upgrade would likely have to be added as an aquireable blueprint, so as to not make it overly easy to use the drones for everything. Also it would likely have a very small inventory.
