Got this from the Reddit; all I can say is: it's about damn time...

Removal of Terraforming

Now, all we need is:

1. The ability to connect rooms wherever we wish on bases - no more "plus" building.

2. The removal of the BIG INVISIBLE SQUARE 'BOX' on the Multi-Purpose Room, so we can place them wherever and THEY WILL CONNECT!!!!!!!! ARRRRRRGGGHHH!!!!!!

    Anyone know if these changes will affect an existing base if you havent used a terraformer?

    Personally I hate the terraformer, so good news all around.

    That is going to be a sad day for a quite a few Subnautica fans that build underground bases. Hopefully, they don't touch my Skybase.

    Damn... And I thought they could save the Terraformer by restricting it to Creative Mode and PC.

    Well, poo. I never really used terraforming, but building bases into terrain was about 80% of the fun for me. Some really cool designs could come out of it. I do understand why the feature is being removed, of course, but I'm going to sorely miss it....

    For me it is good news, I never used terraformer. Yes, the base-building could get more difficult, but overly I am fine with that.

    The base building sucks because I just built a base connecting the lava castle to the surface. ~250 connectors and I only get to enjoy my work until this patch drops. At least I built it using dev commands so I only spent an hour or so building it and not a week of collecting titanium and quartz

    Simply because they remove manual terraforming doesn't mean we can't later have some features that allow underground bases and so on. We will have to see.

    I think you forgot that the game is in early access. You should never expect to keep your creations forever at that stage of development. Before the game is published, anything can change - from small to serious aspects of the gameplay, so keeping your base/savegame intact until 1.0 is simply not possible.
