When you repair the Comm. Relay with your welder, it should immediately link up with your suit at which point an Audio Oscilloscope Waveform is displayed on your HUD, perhaps in the top left or right corner. When you're in your Base, the Comm. is in "Answering Machine Mode" - you press the button to play any messages queued up as normal - but when you're out exploring the Comm. Relay switches to "Automatic Mode", where any messages that come in are automatically played; you 'see' them as they play via the Oscilloscope Waveform on your HUD!
