The ampeel is no predator, though. Maybe you mixed that up with the Crabsnake. I voted Reaper, because even after 80 hours this is on is still terrifiying.
Today I had my first close encounter with a crabsquid, while exploring the Deep Grand Reef in a Seamoth; it was totally unexpected and it made me jump out of my skin
The topic is "your favorite predator". The ampeel and mesmer are indeed not aggressive, but they are classified as carnivores by the PDA. The mesmer is further described as having a "unique hunting mechanism that allows it to catch prey twice its size". That makes it a predator. The ampeel is straight-up said to be a "large, inquisitive predator".
It might feel a bit counter, but predators don't have to singularly or allround aggressive. I like it that we've got a few of them who recognize the player as not part of their diet.
Ampeel is the most adapted to fight you specifically, as it can bypass stasis fields and electric defenses because it still shocks you. Also it should be able to temporarily disable electronics
The Crabsquid and its terrifyingly beautiful sounds! For sure!
I know they definately nailed it on the head with this one. The overall contrast of it's clear membrane head and it's brain makes it look like the membrane trees and the colors just fit the blood kelp zone and grand reef so well. The noise is one I fear even when playing in creative, knowing I can't die.

I agree, however the Crabsquid takes the cake from me, as of now though (can't wait for the Lost River's critters )
Yes! Go team Crabsquid! Can't wait for when it has the EMP ability too
Special mention for the mesmer, because it's not an option, yet the closest competition the crabsquid has being my fav predator.
He's so kawaii~
Again, Wikia says otherwise.

true it isn't aggresive but it does hunt small fish thus predator.
In our* opinion
