Suggestion: Gear worn takes damage when you do

Currently, certain items either wear down with use (Knives) or they lose energy charge as they are used (Welder, Laser Cutter, Flashlight, etc). I'd like to see the gear I'm wearing (Suit, Fins, etc) take damage when I do, which would eventually lead to my needing to replace them.

For example, I get chomped on several times by a Stalker - my suit and stuff ought to be damaged if I am. I cut open an Acid Mushroom to get seeds, and trigger the usual bloom of acid, taking damage - my gear ought to be damaged, since it covers most of my body and yet I'm injured. One of those stinking Crash fish comes screaming down the tunnel and blasts me into single digit health - my gear ought to be busted up pretty bad, since he can cripple a Seamoth with a direct hit.

It would be a lot more exciting if I'm deep under water and despite fending off an attack by a predator, they've finally damaged my air tank so its not giving me a bunch of bonus air, or my fins aren't giving me a bonus to speed anymore, or my flashlight (that was in my hand when I was attacked) gets crushed and I'm left in the dark...now its suddenly not an leisurely ascent to the surface, its a 'swim for your life' moment. Good thing I brought my Air Bladder...oh crap, it got punctured!

Wouldn't be a terrible idea on survival and hardcore. For balancing reasons, it should be damaged too quickly otherwise you'd spend all the materials you find exploring on simply repairing your stuff. There'd be no point to explore and risk damaging your stuff

It shouldn't just wear out from use, but only when you take damage. That happens rarely enough that I think it wouldn't do much to hurt game balance.
