Cool planet history idea!

Not much is known about the planets history (at least that I know of). But what if you could learn about past inhabitants? Well that's what my ideas about, a potential past residence of the planet before it was covered by water. So my idea goes that there was an intelligent species living on the planet before I was flooded and they left clues as to what happened to them through ancient hieroglyphic like text that they left on stone slabs that you could find and scan.
These ancient people would nhave had to traverse all the terrain that we the players swim through, including the floater islands, all of them. This woul make the floaters thousands if not millions of years old. But since the planet is covered in water, that means there had to have been a flood, this is what caused their extinction. A massive flood covered the planet in water, killing the species and any other land animals. By scanning the ancient texts you would uncover their story and find out how they survived, what they encountered and maybe, find some tools they used.
