Loading speed

Okay, I'm really curious now what is going on with the loading speed. I just assumed the game loaded super slow and that was just the way it was.

But my daughter asked me to install Subnautica on her rather low-end Desktop, whereas I use my top of the line Asus Republic of Gamers laptop which is better than most desktops. Loading a new game for me takes over 60 seconds. I hesitated to even install the game on her computer because I figured it wouldn't even run.

Surprisingly, it ran well. In fact, it loaded up a brand new game in 15 seconds!! I was REALLY surprised at that one, because I've always had such a long wait on my high-end machine.

Granted, the game doesn't look as amazing on her computer, but it does load very quick. Can someone tell me what is going on?

After maybe 5 minutes of play, it did crash to desktop... not sure if it will keep doing that, but it's worth noting. I've never had a CTD when running on the laptop.

First thing that comes to mind for me is hard drive speed. If the HDD in your laptop is crappy and slow, it won't write and transfer files very fast, which will limit savegame creation speed, as well as general loading speeds in pretty much any game.
If it matters enough to you, you might want to invest in a new drive, maybe even an SSD if you have the cash, if you can find one that'll fit. Personally I'm not gonna get an SSD until the space-to-price ratio is much better. When 1TB SSDs go under $200 on average, then I'll consider it.

I know that as you explore the game world and build more stuff, it seems to make much larger save games, and thus longer load times. A fresh (new) game loads much faster for me than my long running saved game. Like five times longer for the older more complete save file.
