What about a colony. A set of animals (with various types) that control and area and have a "hive". The hive would have a queen in it. If the queen would be killed, all of the colony would die. The reason to fight them is the fact that this colony could not be infected. You could use the transfuser to derive a way to slow down the carar. They would look like the front halve of a lobster/praying mantis with the back end of a flat worm.
They could be under investigation by the precursors for research

I very much like that idea. I posted something similar a while ago.
I am working on a concept of a giant robotic squid which I thought could be a security gaurd for the player's base or cyclops. It will be roughly twice the size of the player and will attack hostile creatures, however it will only delay a reaper leviathan. Anything like a sea emperor or dragon will instantly destroy it.
I haven't posted on here for a while, but I thought I'd come back with a new idea
The Amalgamation. This creature is only found in the Lost River base and are deformed versions of already existing creatures, always with very heavy Carar.
Corroder-Latches onto your base and slowly corrodes away the metal which it than eats. Causes base damage.
Sandworm-A large worm that, like the name implies, dwells in the sand waiting for unsuspecting prey.
Rockgrub - actually this animal is still in the game - a very small green luminous shrimp like creature you can find in caves under 100 m depth. You can take them for catching fish or making flares.
Pyrosome - passive lifeform - cylindrical or cone-shaped colonies made up of hundreds to thousands of individuals. Good for research in the laboratory / microscope and creating advanced chemicals / pheromones to tame predators:

Yeah - nice Idea - Maybe there is a decreasing mechanic in the game so you are able to enter very small caves / splits and you can pass predators unseen.
But in this case normal small fishes become dangerous...nice extra twist

A toad like creature with a reef on top that buries its self in sand and waits for a creature to come, then it will shoot its tongue at it and bring it to its mouth, and maybe when it moves it takes time to get out of the sand, like 45 seconds or a minute, but instead of hopping, the two front legs will walk and the two back legs with move when they are fully stretched out,
Lungfish: Found around floater island and the mountain island. It can breath air and water, and if threatened by say a stalker, it can wiggle itself onto land to escape predators and stay there for short periods of time.
Giant salamander: Only one or two are at floater island at a time, or found on the beach at mountain island. It resembles a Prionosuchus or Diplocaulus and is 1 m long. Although it is quite skittish.
Giant Moth: It resembles Lymantria. It flys away when you aproach it, and is similar in behaviour to the skyray. It is often seen perching on Land Trees. There should also be a huge cacoon of one inside of the mountain island, (one of the caves in it).
Slimy Slug: Found underwater and on land, on the islands it can be seen wriggling on the trees and rocks, especially the Land Trees and degasi bases, and the mountains of Mountain Island. Underwater it can be found wriggling it's way across the jellyshrooms and tree mushrooms.
The Thing: Extremely large creature, tentacles, you can't even imagine it without seeing it for yourself. Something out of not even the worst of nightmares, unkillable. Found at the bottom of the dead zone, if there is one Extremely Rare, nearly never shows up.
Flora
Magma Weed: A variation of the writhing weed, just liek theres variations of fish. It is white at the top, and is like a sunset down, going from yellow to orange to red at the bottom.
All good ideas, but 'The Thing'? What? Is it some sort of Kraken? I don't get it.
The Flora part, the magma weed thing is a cool, i mean hot, idea, lol.

looks like a meaner version of the Vine Turtle

Who doesn't love gigantic sand-based predator? Something like the antlion would be cool. There's also this thread about such a creature...

How about it's a robot and new sub you can ride
