You can make signs about that size.

Whenever I've tried to make a sign it only makes it barely the size of the text I type in.

Did you use the interface to make it bigger?

Huh...for some reason the few times I've made signs, they never displayed that editing interface before. It was always just the text like when you edit a wall locker.

Edit: Just figured out why. Sometimes most of the interface gets hidden in the wall.
