After 30 min of searching for the 2nd part of the solar panel I realized one thing:
I know very well what to look for in order to survive and build a decent base, but new players will have a hard time scanning and building the first items.
So here's a tutorial sequence to start the game with. After opening the PDA, you are asked to start the “Emergency survival training”. This will help new players to get some basic Information of the game.
1. Build a scanner
In order to gain information about the world, you need a scanner to gain information. All following steps require a scanner.
- Find titanium, can be extracted of small metal pieces
- Build the scanner, a battery is provided in the emergency supply.
(You can scan the shrooms afterwards to gain battery building power)
- Scan the solar panels of the survival pod
On top are 2 solar panels you can scan to aquire the blueprint
Goal: Learn to use the scanner, gain a power source for bases
Missing in-game:
- A free battery in the survival locker
- Scannable solar panels on top of the pod
2. Find basic building material
For survival, you have to gather materials in the area. Find material suitable for construction
- Scan scrap metal and quartz for construction materials
- Scan acid mushrooms and lime stone to build batteries
- Scan sturdy plants to find material suitable for building
First hint pops up after scanning creepvine, finished after scanning creepvine fruits
Goal: Learn where to find item to build tools and objects
Missing in-game
- creepvine sea cluster cannot be scanned while still on the plant. You have to pick it up and drop it in order to scan it (which still looks bad)
- quartz cannot be scanned
3. Build basic equipment
Oceanic area detected. You might need these items
Build...
- An oxygen tank
- A knife
- Flippers
Goal: Have the basic equipment
4. Find food and water source
The emergency supply should be consumed by now, find new sources for your basic needs
- Scan any small fish to check if it's edible
- Scan either a bladderfish or the normal/tube coral for water production
Goal: Gain some food and water
Missing in-game:
- corals cannot be scanned, you have to gather a part and drop it
- Right now I can just cut tube corals for parts, the smaller version seems invincible
5. Build a simple base:
You need small home and a place to store stuff
5 steps to your first home:
- construct a builder tool (scan the purple coral for computer chip)
- build a corridor (best, any type will do)
- add a solar panel on top
- install a hatch
- build a locker inside
Goal: small intro to base building, power for oxygen, how to add a hatch and storage
Missing in-game
- you cannot scan the purple coral, you have to cut it and scan the part which drops
Congratulations! Your chance of survival increased by 20%!
For veteran players most of this is totally clear, but when you suddenly had to use creepvine fruits to build a knife... that update was the most confusing so far.
This tutorial should also prevent new players from proudly building a small base, enter it with little oxygen, just to realize they need power to breath in it.
Part 3 and 4 are less real information and more to make the survival training more realistic.
At least, you gain fast access to your first power source (solar panels), which now is absolutely required in order to build a working base you can breath in.
