I would imagine that the Irwin Allen Estate would be more than a bit peeved if the Subnautica Team had gone exactly there, without asking and/or paying for the use of the IP rights.
Though, it would have been really, really kool if they had.
Perhaps if the game does well, someday they will inquire about adding it later on down the road.
Dam that's a cool seamoth! Good find with the art, always enjoy seeing the ideas and comparing that to where it is today.
I like the current in game models but the bay doors on our current Cyclops are ugly and clanky I think. Those older doors in the concept are not only more logical in that they slide away neatly vs currently opening outwards (in sometimes cramped spaces), but just way slicker too!
Would be cool bananas if they ever changed em back!
With the introduction of the camera system aboard the Cyclops id risk a guess that almost everyone drives it with them, instead of using the ''dang-near-impossible-to-see-anything-thru-it'' front window. So, the whole giant front window of our current Cyclops is barely useful. In that sense i find the concept art above much prettier than the current cyclops, with smaller windows and a frontal big spotlight.
As for the current seamoth dock bay doors opening outwards instead of sliding sideways like in the conspet art, i can understand why devs decided to go with the current model. Its much easier to locate the bay (specially in the dark at night or in the deep) when 2 huge doors open up like this. Of course, the way it works in the concept art looks cooler, ill agree to that
As far as Seamoths comparision, i find ours much cooler than the yellow one in the concept art. I guess its just a question of taste there tho.
Folks..., I hope you realize that NONE of that is really concept art for "Subnautica".
(I'm sure the OP is aware, he was apparently attempting to make a joke)
Those are actually renderings of the SEAVIEW and it's FLYING SUB from the 1964-68 TV show called "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea".
And that TV show was based on a Irwin Allen Movie from 1961 of the same name.
