So I'm thinking that since the transfuser is obviously going to be the next big thing to be added, maybe it's time to look again at the idea of domesticating the local animal life.
Currently you can "tame" a stalker, but only for a few moments, by feeding it a fish. So there is a mechanic in the game code for "tame" behavior, however brief. So let's take our giant fish tanks and combine it with that transfuser to make permanent taming possible. Raising genetically altered versions of the various creatures in our containment tanks for release into the wild later.
Why do this? Because with a little more AI logic added in this could be expanded into a multitude of useful directions. Imagine if genetically altered, imprinted stalkers went out into the kelp beds for you and brought back gifts of wreckage for you to use? A simple modification of an already existing behavior, yes? Now you don't have to go out there yourself. Tweak an amp-eel to think of your base as it's home/nest, but never to consider you a threat. Now it's a guard, protecting that area from any other predators that might encroach. Raise an army of biters that only enjoy the taste of reaper flesh and turn them loose on those bastards. Make a peeper that explodes like a crashfish when something tries to eat it, and then dump them into predator zones for laughs.
Like I said, the possibilities are endless. Let's try to get them into the game before that section of code is sealed off forever, yes?
