Reefback is stuck rotating in tight circle

I'm still Linda new to the game, but not so new that I know what is normal behavior for the giant Reefback. I was swimming away from my lifepod with Aurora to my back and came across a Reefback and the poor thing is stuck spinning in a tight circle. He's been doing that ever since I started a new game with the latest patch. I'm sorry I can't give better directions to where he is since I don't know what the different compass directions are yet. I've seen my cat chasing their tails, and though this is much slower, the Reefback is doing the exact same thing.
