Flood & Spot Light Power

Can flood and spot lights PLEASE use base generator power rather than batteries if they are placed on base structures?? Replacing all those batteries is an unnecessary chore. Maybe if the generators run out of juice the batteries kick on? ... perhaps they already are conditioned that way and I'm just not completely familiar with the amount of power consumption they have.

Floodlights use batteries, spotlights use base power. LED lights also use batteries, and can be placed by hand. Floodlights can be built ANYWHERE, though.

I'd definitely like floodlights built on bases to not require a battery, and use base power, though.

This is something I've suggested a few times as well, both on the forums and through the in-game Feedback tool. Letting the Floodlight wirelessly tap into a base's power supply if it's close enough, and fallback onto battery power if the base runs out or if you place it in the middle of nowhere.

As it is, I pretty much never use them except in Creative, and with how battery lifespans seem to be getting shorter and shorter with new updates (Or probably more accurately, power consumption is rising) that just makes them even less appealing to use for lighting purposes. I guess their purpose is more to plop them down for a few minutes to build/explore then deconstruct them and not to be placed for permanent use, but still....

Yes agreed they should be able to use power.

I'd also like to see light poles with a different color on each side that you could use to market a route across the sea floor. If you have played SOMA you will know those. With a floating beacon/locker style version for when the sea floor isn't practical.

I like how you can make a spotlight and remove the battery. Then deconstruct it to remove the battery again.

Agreed if close enough to base should use the darn thing but they probably argue that the spot lights from the floating island is already there

I had thought this is what the remote power transmitter was for... to power up floodlights from base power. Then I realized it didn't... so I deconstructed all my floodlights (cant be bothered to refill batteries every few minutes).

And yes, funny about taking the battery out before you deconstruct it... gives you a second battery... oops.

Are you saying that one titanium, one glass and one battery can yield infinite batteries? I thought I was being crafty by using my depleted batteries to make fully charged power cells...

Yeah, it's the kind of exploit that will probably only work in EA. It has to be on the to-fix list, but probably not very high.
