Mountain Island should be furthur away

I think Mountain Island is too close from the spawn.

Firstly this can spoil too much on early game, secondly the island makes furthur exploration around mountain biomes underwater a bit useless. (=too early highlight)

It is kinda bad because underwater mountain biome itself is truely awesome.

Why not then move the Mountain Island furthur to the north east?

The northeastern Mountains and the Dunes always have been the most useless areas in Subnautica, but I figure they just don't want to level the whole mountain then rebuild it elsewhere.

I think mountain biome is pretty useful. There are big caves, etc.

The mountains are going to be the location for the energy canon aren't they?

Also I'm a lot more interested in seeing an ice biome. I'd imagine it'd be way north of the aurora if they ever are gonna add one.

All reaper biomes are "useless" beyond stuff that's near the borders anyway. Relocating what's currently in is more work than it's worth when the "problem" is that in general there's no reason to go to those biomes. But I believe there is a trello card for doing some with the sand areas, at least.

I don't think the whole biome will be moved in the future, such decision means lots of additional work. Yes, it is kind of close... Let's wait and see how it's gonna work with the future story elements.

Let me rephrase that then. They're not useful practically, in that anything you could find in the reaper-infested waters of the northeastern Mountains and the western Dunes, you can find in reaperless regions at a fraction of the risk involved - or in the case of the Grand Reef, with no risk involved.

Unless you're literally cleaned the map of resources and need more, or just want to go and see the sights, those two biomes offer nothing that can't be found in biomes that do not have Reapers in them. Even the cannon is placed on a strip of land where you can swim up to without a seaglide and not be concerned about the Reaper that's off on the other side of the place.

Sure there is a wreck in the Dunes, and one in the Mountains (Admittedly, close by to the mountain itself...), but anything inside can currently be found in much safer locations. No need to swim with the reapers if you've got safer alternatives. So the far northeastern section of the Mountains could really use something to give players a reason to take those risks. Maybe another opening into one of the deep sea cavern biomes?

But swimming with the reapers is fun...
If you can dodge a reaper, you can dodge a ball (thrown by a warper to try to teleport you out of your seamoth).

    Also, exploration!

I've never ever had a problem with reapers there.

Also I like mountain and definitely would not want to see it leveled.

I think the operative word here is "currently". I would not be surprised at all if by the time 1.0 comes around we will be forced to risk it to get to something.

Moving an entire island can't be easy, though. They are working on fixing the problem by adding a layer of clouds that surrounds the mountain island so that you can't see it from spawn.

I just want the clouds to be fog. Like an actual layer of fog that encapsulates the island, even when you're on it. That is,
until the gun shoots down the Sunbeam,
then the clouds could blow away and you can see the gun from all over, since I think that will be the point you want to head to it.

Perhaps we could find rocket ship fragments in there...

    I agree entirely.

This is especially true of the giant cannon - it should be at the edge of the map. The other precursor technology is at great depth (lava zone or lost river) and thus will be a surprise to the player. However, the giant cannon is easy to find at the start of the game.

Also, it takes away from the thrill of finding dry land (long before people find floater island, they'd often find the rocky islands... and it makes for a wonderful experience to discover a place to walk - even if it is barren).

So, IMHO, the cannon really ought to be moved.

It'd also be really great to have more highlights in the mountain zone. Or maybe even another miniature biome hidden inside of it ...something to reward those who risk the terror!

    P.S.
When I first played through the game I thought that the mountain and sandy dune biomes were the edge of the map (and the Reapers were edge guardians).

Thanks Avimimus. That is exactly what i wanted to explain. There is really no more reason to go furthur than the mountain island.

Also it needs to have at least eight more reapers added, and they need to patrol near the surface. I find it stupid that people exploit the game mechanics to avoid reapers simply by swimming near the surface and get to the mountain island & it's resources early in the game. There is not enough challenge in getting to it when clearly it was meant to be something you can only do later in the game.

I dunno, the Mountain Island is nice because you can find Uraninite and Magnetite abundantly there, that makes getting the Exosuit and Thermal Plants easier (but you still have to unlock them first). Hopefully they add more 'interesting' stuff there later as exploring the island itself is somewhat bland, though I've noticed Warpers appearing there after this last update.

@Tarkannen if you don't know what's coming there, I'm not gonna spoil it for you... let's just say there are... plans for the mountain island.

Oh, I know already @Sidchicken . Energy Pulse Origin signal, Precursor gun and base, future story progression. Browsing these forums everyday has spoiled the surprise but not the fun hehe. I meant more like them adding 'interesting' stuff to the island like the Lantern Fruit or Jaffa Cup plants are to the Floater Island (not really counting the previously built bases). I wish there were more interesting things native to the Mountain island cuz it's nice to explore. But it's just winding caves and an underwater cavern; once you visit it and reap the rewards, you don't really have a reason to return after that.

Browsing the forums does do that. I've been trying to avoid the trello thread and anything that looks like it'll spoil more than I already know. And yet I keep coming back here...
