Help! Map Crashing!

<div class="IPBDescription">When I join a team, HL crashes.</div> Right now, I've got a simple map. Readyroom in the top right corner of the map which has 20-24 <b>info_player_starts</b> (yes i know I should add more, this is just for testing), 2 <b>info_join_teams</b> (one team 1, one team 2), and <b>info_spectate</b>, and <b>info_join_autoassign</b>.

Then in the marine spawn I've got 16 <b>info_team_starts</b> (set to team 1) an <b>info_mapinfo</b> (which I didn't change any variables in, so maybe there's something in that that I need to do), and a <b>team_command</b> (set to team 1).

The alien spawn areas (3 of them, which are close together, 4-5 hundred units apart. This is because I am just working on the marine spawn area atm and don't have the aliens area built yet. So I just put three of these outside the spawn in a big room) This area has I think 5 <b>info_team_start</b> (set to team 2) for each hive, and obviously 3 <b>team_hive</b> (or whatever it's called).

So I join the game, it works fine. But the second I walk into the <b>info_join_team</b> (set to team 1), HL crashes and I go nuts. I've done everything I can think of and still nothing is working to fix this crash. Altho, while typing this I just realized I don't have 3 resource nodes for the aliens, which could be part of my problem...so I'll add those and edit this if it worked or not. But in the mean time, if anyone has any ideas why I suck so much at mapping let me know! Thanks! (And I hope this isn't in one of the FAQ's here.. I've been to so many websites looking for help and I couldn't.     This could be your culprit. Set your commander view height and map boundaries.

    Does it crash when you join alien?

    Yes it does crash when I join aliens as well.

    I'll try changing the commander view height and map boundaries and recomple again.
    [Edit] I did change the vaules in info_mapinfo to set boundaries and view heights and it's still crashing.

    It's good to see an SA goon on these forums. I didn't even think about posting for help on SA or if there's already a NS mapping thread. I'm ApeTit on SA, don't post much so you probably won't recognise me.

    There's definitely a few NS threads, but as far as I know there's no NS mapping specific thread.

    I'll bet there's more than a few HL mapping experts there though. try posting in Games or SH/SC

    I just encountered a similar problem. I can join the marine team, but the second I join the aliens HL crashes. Up until 20 minutes ago I was able to join fine. Guess I'll save it and start undoing my steps to find the problem.

    If you find what it was please let me know. I started a new map, rebuilt the basic structures, then added spawn points. Everything worked fine. Then a few hours down the road after adding some detail to those areas, back to where I started... <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo--> I guess this 3rd time around rebuilding the map I'll compile every couple minutes and see what it is I keep doing to mess things up <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Anyone figure this out? I just started a test map to get the basics working as a reference and it crashes for Marines (not aliens). I have a similare setup as Chocobo... any ideas?

    *EDIT* Problem only occurs if I join Marines first. If I join aliens, F4, and then join Marines it seems to work fine. Otherwise if I join Marines first, I see a flash of the level, then it turns black and repeats the last sound (loading weapon) until you Ctrl Alt Del out. Hope that helps some

    dont place info_team_start to close to the wall or close to each other.
    getting startet at a point that sees in the void (hall of mirrors) will cause a crash.
    the start position is choosen randomly wich could explain the random appearance.

    The occurance is pretty consistent. I join marines from the start, it crashes. I join aliens, it doesn't. I join aliens, f4, and then join marines, it works just fine. I'm positive my spawns are well out of range of eachother and the room is absolutely sealed (its a hollowed cube <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->). Thanks for the suggestions, however. I've mapped before, just not for NS, so I'm pretty aware of the standard things to look out for. I'm just not sure if there's some wacky NS-specific things that could be causing this.     I've heard that having a readyroom made out of aaatrigger can cause this. Could be an old wives tale tho...

    Wow... that was it Chrome. Just to clarify, I translated "Readyroom Made out of aaatrigger" to "Join_Team Brush Entities Textured with aaatrigger". Thank you very much for your help! If anyone else had this problem, I'd be interested in seeing if this was the fix as well. Btw, the texture I replaced the aaatrigger with was the "null" texture.     Freakeh!

    I actually mean't the readyroom, not the joins, but whatever worked for you...

    I use aaatrigger for team joins myself and i've never encountered this error. Prehaps someone can do some scientific investiagtion into this and find out what's <i>really</i> going on?

    I've used the same, I have no idea what causes it, I've never had the problem before. Could it be the rest of your map is too big?
