Lets talk about the non-tech stuff

You receive a distress call from the Aurora carcass saying you must activate the self-destruct device for any XYZ given reason, eg.: company policy. When you're about to do this, you find an old drone-control AI core about to fall from the Aurora into an abyss. You carry it back to your base and it gives you access to a blueprint for remote short-range drones and claims it had been previously tasked for building before the crash...a new space cruiser with an FTL drive. These short range drones can virtually automatize anything you tell them to do: gather resources, recharge at bay, repair things, ward off medium threats, transfer things to your sub, etc, all within a relatively small radius around the drone beacon installed in the base, but only in a base where you have your AI Core connected.

So now that micromanagement is slowly being replaced by free time, you start to focus more on taking the Cyclops deeper and deeper, finding new technologies to help build the new cruiser. After finally managing to steal an exclusive resource from the clutches of the ugliest monster in the ugliest fire riddled pit of the ocean, you return to your base only to find that the drone-control AI is actually a full blown sentient AI that has no better plans than to conquer the known universe and even openly admits to being responsible (indirectly) for Aurora's crash when it attempted to escape the on-board firewalls. Narrowly escaping from the death lasers coming at you from the drones, you manage to destroy the comm link between the AI and the almost finished cruiser (to avoid it from transferring onto the ship core just as the load was at 99.9%) and launch into space in a spectacular blaze of vapor, ionic thrust wake and bubbles as your portside photon cannons rain down fiery death on the AI underwater base.

Half-way out towards the atmosphere you realize there is no FTL drive installed on the ship. As you slowly "sink in" to the fact that you're stranded on this planet forever, the red comm light starts blinking with 5 messages from survivors that saw your ship fly off into the night sky. They are spread around the globe (in different areas only reachable with your brand new mobile-base cruiser) and they will each add a piece to the puzzle in order to manually manufacture the cruiser FTL drive. There's only 1 problem, you are now on a race against time with an AI you thought dead that is slowly taking control of the planet's ocean with more advanced and more aggressive tech. By using your cruiser as a mobile resource deployment and long range defense and strategy platform, you must keep the depths of the worldwide ocean safe long enough for your team to gather the required resources to build the FTL drive.

After successfully gathering all the resources AND building the FTL drive, you and your team realize that the AI is still a threat for this planet and for the universe if it is ever discovered. So instead of shooting off into the unknown, you decide to play unsung heroes and stay long enough to see the AI core destroyed. With the AI smoking core in your hands, you discover a strange alien blueprint embedded within it. A darker and much deeper secret lies dormant in the unexplored depths of the planet, a secret tied back to the very origins of the universe. And you realize just how important your mission is, in this otherwise small meaningless planet floating around the vast universe.

You know, today at work I found some Harry Potter naughty-themed fanfiction hidden (badly) on a computer. This plotline reminded me of HP slash fanfic for some reason.

So, you just want a different game.

I kind of agree. If I were the character, I would feel like this is the worst possible situation. What are my problems?

    - I am fighting off a hyperadvanced bacterium capable of altering my DNA that can only be cured by the oldest known organism on this planet, which I need to save from extinction.

    - My stomach does not agree with a lot of this planetary biology, and is used to synthetic foods.

    - I cant seem to get to any survivors in the escape pods in time, even if I have a seaglide and they're 200 meters away from me, and the earlier survivors cannot be found, and no one apparently survives the Sunbeam crash, and the Precursors have left the party. I am now utterly alone, with no one to talk to but my computer, who might rise up against me (we can get to that)

    - If I try to leave, I get shot at.

    - I am on a planet with Acid Shrooms, which sound incredible, but I cant get high from them.

    - Now my once-helpful companion computer has evolved to an intelligence at the worst possible time: On a planet with advanced destructive alien technology to scan, almost infinite resources that can be used with 3D printers capable of producing anything that can be designed, the ability to contain the most dangerous disease known to the galaxy, a ship with components to a phasegate that can allow it to travel wherever, and no one to answer to but me.

I've got enough problems, and at this point, am ready to embrace certain death.

That sounds like an excellent idea for a mod!
