The rundown, the littler key things inside a Precursor base have PDA notes.
These entail a storyline of I guess a virus that they made and it ended up killing plants and animals, estimated 143 Billion.

It also says they shut down the planet and stopped any vessel coming and leaving... without proper genetic clean, or clean state.
Since they are all gone the can't, literally can't approve craft coming or leaving... to stop the infection.
