Need a system for treading water

This guy is obviously an expert swimmer. I think he should be able to tread water without continuing to jump and splash and cough. The animations cut off and repeat halfway through and look very unpolished. I can't stay steady to look at things, and I keep dunking back underwater. The splashing sound is oppressive to me and cuts off also. I can tread water better than this guy.

I feel like I'm not allowed to be at the surface, and I don't like that.

A lot of games stick you to the surface when you hit it, and you have to explicitly dive. I'm not sure the engine can do what you're looking for, tbh. I know what you mean, though, and it does make sense.

For that matter, it seems like the guy starts swimming anytime there's about a foot of water, regardless of how much more sense it would make to wade in it.

I just chalked it up to peculiar engine things, and figured that the game was concentrated mostly on below the water, anyway.

It's pretty noticeable, right? Like, for a game all about swimming that you can't SWIM like a human being.

I also agree about shallow water. Weird, but not as annoying. It would be better to stand on island formations just beneath the surface.

Yeah, this bugs me a bit too. It's definitely irritating when exploring the Aurora. There are so many areas where it looks like there's a foot of water, but your character ends up splashing more than a Magikarp, with about the same amount of success. Yes, I know the game's focus is on the underwater aspect, but when there are significant areas in the game that involve water of wading depth, that needs to work properly as well.

maybe he is a magikarp. but seriously, it is in place, because a majority of the game takes place underwater and therefore its needed. technically also, you swim faster at the surface because of the range of movement you can preform, but the sloshing waves slows you down.

I'm bumping this because I cared enough to post it and send in-game feedback messages. It's something that everyone (in my experience) notices when they play the game. It's not realistic or necessary.

He does this in the XboxOne version actually, don't need to hold any buttons or anything. It'd be nice if the same was true in the PC version - makes surveying the landscape (And watching the Aurora explode, that never gets old~) so much easier.

Just youtubed that, and holy crap, it's true, and looks excellent.

If anyone doesn't mind, please write in-game feedback about this if you do agree.
