Decompression sickness

I noticed there seems to be an experimental decompression sickness feature that can be enabled via the console. To be honest, though, I really hope it is not implemented in the game.

I think not having to worry about decompression sickness is an acceptable break from reality. It would just be tedious, frustrating, and annoying, rather than add to one's enjoyment of the game. The game oxygen tank only provides one minute's worth of extra air at the most, so having decompression sickness wouldn't really work out well.

Ye I agree. I'm all for realism, but decompression sickness in the full game wouldn't make it fun. It's one of those things which I don't want to be compulsary, but I like the idea that people can choose to try it out or not. It should stay in the console commands, but not in the full game.

I'd love to have it as an option. In fact, I rather enjoyed it.

It'd be nice if it was added as a menu option though (right now I have to activate it via the console every time I load the game)!

Would you mind sharing how it works as gameplay? I didn't know decompression sickness was coded in until now.

How does this work in-game and what does it add to gameplay or challenge?

From my understanding, the entire point of having that feature in the game is that it would introduce nitrogen into oxygen tanks, which lets you store massive amounts of oxygen per tank thanks to air compression, at the cost of having to be careful about rising in depth too quickly. This would mean that you could out exploring without worrying about air for much, much longer periods of time, possibly minutes at a time, at the cost of not being able to go up super fast. And if I understand decompression sickness as well as I think I do, it would only effect you if you quickly rose to the surface outside of a vehicle, and much faster than you could swim, IE using an air bladder.

So if it works the way I understand it to work, I'm completely in favor of it.

It's simple, just take a quick glance at this easy-to-understand chart.
