Reclaiming abandoned bases?

After visiting the abandoned bases in the Grand Reef and Mushroom cave it occurred to me that it would be rather neat (and perhaps a worthwhile story element?) to allow players to repair and rebuild the abandoned underwater bases for themselves?

Being able to repair and restore the remains of the Degasi bases would make for an interesting challenge (especially the base in the Grand Reefs) and give newer players a bit of a jump start on base construction and provide useful staging grounds for exploration in the surrounding biome/s without needing to invest the heavy resources otherwise necessary to build another new base in that location.

I wonder how different the models are, and if they CAN replace them like that.

I've often wished we could repair/repurpose the abandoned bases myself. It just seems to really make sense. Get out the welder and go to it, or let the builder tool have a 'restoration' option that would essentially rebuild the old base component to new using say, half of the resources needed to build from nothing. Something like that.

i could get behind this; the first thing i did was try to fix the one in the shroom forest.
i didnt want to build another space in a place that already has a trash problem.
i try to play like it is real exploration and in this case i would definitely be trying to patch up the abandoned bases to preserve my stocks of materials.
