Was inspiration drawn from 'Pacific Rim?' (Poll)

So, relaxing on the couch after an evening run and 'Pacific Rim' is playing on the TV. Aside from the underwater environment, my thoughts slowly drifted to Subnautica and its Sea Empress. Towards the end of the movie, the Jaegers are fighting Kaijū underwater near the dimensional portal and one I had noticed that one of the kaijū had quite a bit (in my opinion) of resemblance to the Sea Empress. Due to it reminding me, I searched up the Sea Empress on google images and turns out, I was not the only one who had thought this; an image compared the kaijū and the Sea Empress. Which leads to this poll. Let me know what you all think, but the only ones who can confirm this are the Devs ;)
EDIT: This scene from the movie probably shows it best, plus, it's just a cool scene either way, so check it out! (It is the scene that made me think of the Sea Empress originally):

Here's the image (I hold no ownership over it, someone else, being 'Evolute Creator,' made it, so shout out to you man  )

Thanks for reading! Have a good day :)

There's another Kaiju in the same scene with a similar head shape to the emperor, but without the four eyes. There's another (the horse-head one) with an outer head shell similar in appearance to the Sea Dragon. Finally, if you've seen the hong kong fight, the Kaiju that made landfall (the other one was intercepted in the ocean and resembled a turtle) bears a tiny resemblance to the Sea Dragon.

Pacific Rim 2: Subnautic Rim confirmed

Damn, I've got to watch the full movie again. I might add a video to this thread, as the two images above weren't the scenes/pictures that made me think of said Sea Emperor
    Thanks for commenting! :)
EDIT: Found the exact scene that got me thinking of the Sea Empress and whilst I was at it, I checked out the Hong Kong fight scene and I can see how the scale plating on the acid spitter bears resemblance :)

I think they both took their inspiration from hammerheads and cephalopods... subnautica also clearly borrowed a bit from grasshoppers here...

Nah. Slattern (The "Final Boss" Kaiju that they fight at the end) and the Sea Empress both just have heads based on Hammerhead sharks.

Both the Reaper Leviathans and Knifehead have enormous blades on their heads, but they're in no way related.

Hmm, what about the tentacles with the blue orbs/patches?
But I understand where you're coming from, thinking back to it, it is a bit of a stretch

Tentacles and glowy bits are common themes in both aliens and sea creatures, so there are bound to be some similarities.

Hey, Evolute Creator here. Thanks for the shoutout, the image took me like, five minutes to make. Glad to see it's been put to good use. Where'd you find it?

While many cultures have large sea monster myths, a lot of these monster films are basically inspired by Japanese post-war cinema, mainly Godzilla, and manga - Pacific Rim was an almost direct rip-off of that concept, whereas Subnautica has entirely its own flavour. Leviathan is just another word for Giant, and many cultures have giant myths - giant men, giant creatures, giant fish.

Would Subnautica be as good a game if the Peepers turned out to be the sentient guardians of the ecosystem?

"There's nothing new under The Sun."

I don't think inspiration was necessarily drawn directly from the flick, but it's inevitable that both Subnautica and Pacific Rim share some common ground, both being watery forms of modern media.
That being said, I haven't seen the film so can't really say either way.

TBH, Pacific Rim is basically a poor man's Gundam vs Pokémon Godzilla.

And I definitely enjoyed the movie for the big robot vs monster thing it had...!

Looking at it the dates do line up (Pacific rim was released July 2013, subnautica was announced December the same year.)

ALSO WHAT HAPPENED TO THE BAD ASS LAVA STUFF, I REMEBER IT WAS IN THE GAME AT ONE POINT.

@phantomfinch It still is there. Although in odd places. I've seen it forming in the deep grand reef, for some reason. xD
