Wrong Version Downloaded

Hello. I started playing Subnautica and it is really cool. So, I told my friend about it. He downloaded the game via Steam. He downloaded the game 2 days ago, but for some reason his game was on the version of May-2016? Both of us have no idea what happened. We still haven't checked something like the game's 'Properties', which is an option in Steam. It may have some connection with Steam, I don't know. He hasn't shown me everything, like, maybe he's just messing with me and had downloaded Subnautica already in May, but that's not even possible: Steam would've auto-updated the game. I know he downloaded the game 2 days ago, when the October-2016 was already out. I downloaded Subnautica in the start of October, and my version was correct: September–2016. Then they recently changed to October–2016. I have no idea why it worked correctly for me but it didn't for him. I can't really give any other information, but feel free to ask.

Any ideas of what could have caused my friend's game to download at May–2016? (This is the first time he downloaded it.)

Have him check his system clock and be sure the date / time are correct.

System clock? We just figured out that Steam was still processing his purchase, and that's a bit weird: I bought Subnautica via Steam wallet and I got it a minute after. He is also using the Steam wallet and his purchase didn't work correctly. We'll just wait I guess. But it is still weird that the game downloaded at May–2016

-_- System clock. Keeps time on your PC / Mac. If it's got the wrong date / time, Windows updates won't download / or will crash when attempting to install, virus databases won't be updated, and probably, other weird things. Might not be related, but if it's off, I'd fix it before trying anything else.
