Nitrogen still a thing?

There was a feature called "Nitrogen" a long time ago. Will this be implemented at some point? Becasue currently you have to use the console to activate it via a cheat. I never played with Nitrogen (because I didnt have subnautica back then), so I would like to know, if you can stay longer underwater and have this nitrogen illness or is it just the illness? How does it work and will be implemented after 1.0?

As far as I know, there are currently no plans to implement divers disease.

Closest you get is under ~100m your O2 is used at like 3x the normal rate unless you have a rebreather.

And I would think that that is an acceptable break from reality. It wouldn't make the game enjoyable.

I agree that it wouldn't make it enjoyable for most people that play it. At the same time though, I kind of wish it'd stick around - as a startup option if anything else, or thrust it into Hardcore.
