so i was thinking the seamoth the cyclops and prawn suit should have scanner up grades so you don't have to leave the cyclops and get up close and personal with a reaper to get a scan and other things that want to eat you

But that's the fun part! Haven't you seen on the Reaper's PDA entry, it says something like "I don't know how you were able to scan this thing, but congratulations!" I can see why people would want this, but in my opinion it would be cool to have something really hard to get in the game. You could show off that you were able to scan a reaper, and people would actually think 'woah, this guy's awesome!' instead of 'he probably just used a PRAWN suit or whatever...'
Don't forget that nearly all dangerous creatures have eggs and that you can simply take one, hatch it, and then scan the critter. The handful that currently don't have eggs may very well in the future, since I recall talk of Sea Dragon eggs.
If you need a tip for scanning reapers, go for the one right behind the Aurora. It's in relatively clear and undeep water so you keep a better overview. Do not take aim for the reaper, but hit something within its detection range. Then swim inside the bubble and let the reaper come to you.
