Sorry for the dramatic title, but it has come to my attention that one of the best parts, and one of the parts I don't want to miss, is experiencing new and unknown things in the game without the before hand information I get from Trello. When Subnautica releases, I want it to feel super fresh, moist and scary like it did when I first started playing. This is all due to my lack of willpower, but can you please give me some motivation to not check Trello, Roadmap, Subnautica Forum (this), the Subnautica Twitter Dev List page thingo and sketchfab? I find it too hard to just tell myself to never play or search things about the game before its release and I desperately want to forget about it until V1.O. I know this is a silly, selfish post and sorry for wasting your time, but... well yeah. Who else experiences this? This shall be my last post haha and if anyone else needs some motivation, I'd love to give some - Do as I say, not as I do

I check back only on the forums to see if the recent instability has been patched up, but do my best to avoid possible spoilery things. At this point though, a good amount has already been spoiled for me though xD
Oh, and I do still try and play Subnautica, but the cache-clearing trick only works for so long, then it just becomes so bad that a restart is necessary. Still enjoy the game enough to keep at that though~! And besides, the early game 'grind' is actually one of my favorite parts. Gathering resources, being largely helpless, tiny base is tiny, and seeing those deeeeep trenches and the like but being unable to reach them.... Starting over in Subnautica's never felt like a chore to me, so losing my progress and starting anew's never been all that bad ^^
Of course the feeling of getting your Cyclops finally is pretty great too, and I do love building deep sea bases!
@Rezca -- just to see what happens, can you try another Survival save, and only use the console to get what you need, and take care to never terraform anything with your base?
I'm curious if performance won't drop if you do that ^
I'm doing that right now. Actually just reinstalled the game and am playing Stable. So is Markiplier right now it seems; so far he's only had a few laggy moments buuuuut he's also yet to build a base or a Seamoth....
I only used the console to enable Invisible; other than that I don't really touch it. I try and avoid digging into the terrain when base building anyway ^^
I could go Invisible + Oxygen and just collect every resource I find without ever building a base or Cyclops... See if that affects anything. Or just a minimal base with some lockers inside to store then delete the stuff inside....
Also just thought that you could simply use a command to kill yourself (or disable Oxygen then intentionally drown / swim into a thermal vent / etc) to clear your inventory rather than build a corridor with lockers in it, if simply gathering resources is the main testing point here.
Console:
However, note that this will clear your paperdoll inventory as well.
Reporting in; tried two separate saves so far:
Save 1 - cleared the entire safe shallows and kelp forests of EVERY resource. Rock nodes, salt/quarts, coral, metal scraps, fish, everything but the Large Nodes. No increase in lag or instability (Only lag that ever came was from transitioning into a different biome)
Save 2 - Did not loot a single resource node, but instead traveled between every possible biome I could, starting with surface ones. As before, lag spiked up usually when swimming into a new biome, and it was especially bad in the grassy plataeu areas. Eventually it got pretty bad, especially when moving into the ILZ and Lost River areas. No noticeable increase in instability though.
Save 3 - For this one, I'm planning on swapping on the NoCost cheat and unlocking all blueprints, then just building a ton of stuff. A base with one / two of every component, a few vehciles, and then just seeing what happens. I've noticed in my regular games that the game becomes increasingly unstable as bases are expanded and vehicles are built, so maybe....
Eh, did they ever fix the 'bases always render no matter what" bug? Don't have the Trello link... hang on..
