hello Subnautica community.

I recently purchased Subnautica on Steam, and I aim to play it with my Oculus rift CV1. I'm very excited for this game, however the frame-rates I am getting do not allow me to enjoy the game unfortunately, even after turning the graphics settings down to minimum, and water quality down to medium (the lowest setting). I know that optimization is a work in progress. Are there any upcoming updates which are expected to improve performance? I was also wondering if the Oculus version of the game might run smoother than the steam VR version, because Oculus SDK utilizes ASW and ATW, which can often dramatically improve in game performance. Unfortunately, it does not seem that Subnautica can be launched in Oculus mode through Steam, unlike many other SteamVR titles. when I click play, I am presented with only 2 options:
1. Play Subnautica
2. Launch Subnautica in SteamVR mode

There is no option to "launch Subnautica in Oculus VR mode". For some reason I feel that if I bought the game through Oculus home, my performance would be better due to ASW and ATW. I want to make sure to run in Oculus mode to ensure that ASW and ATW take effect. Please clear up any misconceptions that I have. Would the Oculus version of the game run smoother than the SteamVR version?

finally, below are my hardware specs:
RX480(4gb) GPU
AMDfx6300 CPU
8GBDDR3 RAM

thanks,

Hayk

I ran into major graphical and framerate issues with the game running on The Lowest settings while in my HTC Vive; it made me think I needed another GTX 980 Ti graphics card in-order to play. But... I turned the settings to maximum to see what happened and, to my surprise, the game ran smoother and with less graphical bugs than on the lowest setting! I am getting the impression the Minimum setting needs major work and is broken. Try maximum settings if your rig can handle it. I wonder if it will run better.

I upgraded my PC over Black Friday. New CPU (i76700k), 16GBDDR4, im running the game on my SSD, and my RX480(4GB). Game is playable on "recommended" but not but not smooth enough. The fact the game doesn't run well on my specs shows something is very wrong with the game's optimization. Seems they need help with optimization. I'll send an email.

Try upping the settings to max, does that help? Also clear your cache (I think I responded to you before, apologies if I did).
