Unable to pass main menu

I just bought Subnautica in the Steam sale, because it looks like a cool VR experience.
However, I can't even get past the menu screen. If I look at menu items, such as Play, Options, or Quit, I get an orange circle to highlight it, but I can't select it. Pressing the left mouse button (or any other key, by the look of it) removes the orange circle highlight until move my head again, but I can't actually activate the menu options.
Any suggestions?
(I'm using a Vive, if that's relevant).
