Okay so here me out (and sorry if this is off topic), not sure how many of you remember the ps2 games Jak and Daxter. But when reading up more on the lore of Subnautica. When I read 'highly advanced, ancient, spacefaring alien race' known as the Precursors I quickly thought of the Precursors of Jak and Daxter. Now if you played Jak 1-3 you will know that the Precursors in this game are also 'highly advanced, ancient, spacefaring alien race that also a bit like gods.
To avoid confusion in the thread lets call Subnautica's Precursors P1 and Jak and Daxter's Precursors P2.
P1 created the Warpers, (Self-Warping Quarantine Enforcer Units) were created - a species of humanoid creatures that can track and cull creatures in advanced stages of the disease, they are made combining an existing life form with precursor technology. Their brain and central nervous system have been augmented with enhanced processing power and remote communications were added. Meaning they are biomechanical, and it is possible they are only partly self aware. (This is a theory that they wouldn't be self aware do to the remote control)
And while in Jak and Daxter there is what is called "The dark makers" whom are corrupted P2s (some) also with warping powers (And a few types of Dark Makers having biomechanical traits). And they both are dark in color with purple. There is a type of Dark Maker called the Terraformer -These are controlled by a pilot, meaning they are not self-aware like other dark maker units. Dark Makers had not been created by P2, but their likeness to the Waper is a bit uncanny.
P2 also built the Planetary Defense System, much like P1 has made their own Ground-To-Air Weapon System. (Though a bit used in different ways) Then there is the fact that in both games, there are Precursor artifacts that are used to power up Precursor technology.
I am not saying P1 is P2, but I am saying there are far to many similarities for it to be a coincidence. So it makes me wonder is P1 is just a huge reference/Easter egg to P2. While we still don't know every thing about P1 that might be out there, I felt the need to share this. Feel free to share your opinions as well. Personally, I really hope it is a reference. but maybe I am just grasping at straws.

Hell "Precursor" isn't even that creative of a name. Might as well as call them "Ancients" or "Old Dead Bastards"
Yeah, he idea itself is a staple of sci-fi. Though I think the OP was getting more at some visual similarities rather than just the mere concept of an ancient superadvanced civilization.
