Step 1: Welcome to the Xbox one Slow Performance Solution
Are you able to connect to Xbox Live, but are getting slow performance or lag when playing games on Xbox Live?
If so, answer a few questions and we’ll try a number of solutions to remedy this problem.
Before you begin troubleshooting your connection, check for service alerts on the Xbox Live Status page, or see if an Xbox Live service alert appears at the top of this page. If there is a service alert, wait until the service is back up and running before you start troubleshooting.
Note If you have run the Xbox Live Connection Test and are seeing an error message, use the Xbox one Connection Error Solution to troubleshoot your connection error.
Run the Xbox speed test
Verify the speed of your console’s Internet connection by checking the Xbox one network statistics:
Press the Guide button on your controller, go to Settings, and then select System Settings.
Select Network Settings.
Select the name of your wireless network.
Select Network Statistics.
After the network connection test is complete, write down the following information from the results shown in Your Network Status:
Latency
Upload speed
Download speed
Note If you get an error message while testing your network connection, see the Xbox one Connection Error Solution to troubleshoot the connection error.
Note Having this information handy will make the discussion easier if you have to contact your ISP later.
Compare your speed test results to the following speeds, which we recommend as minimum requirements for the best connection experience:
Online gaming SD video streaming HD video streaming
Latency
Less than
150 milliseconds
Less than
150 milliseconds
Less than
150 milliseconds
Upload speed
0.5 Mbps
N/A N/A
Download speed
3 Mbps
1 Mbps
3.5 Mbps
Please keep in mind that these are the minimum requirements in order for a game or app to have a “Certified” experience. The higher your connection speed, the better your experience will be.
Do your connection speeds meet or exceed the recommended minimum standards for the action you are trying to perform?
Connection speeds to not affect single-player games, except for the period of time in which you're acquiring (downloading) them. Then it's just reading it off of the hard drive.
