I'd ask for a non-MX, maybe only a GF3 to balance the cost.
Sadly, a GF3 gets higher scores than the GF4MXes (and low Ti numbers) do by about a full quarter to third higher FPS rates. Or just nab an ATI card. Or wait for the Kyro3/K4 chip to come out. Sorry.. I'm still more than a little biased for nVidiot running a smear campaign against my former video card (Kyro2-based) to major distributors, instead of customers who could see it and protest. Visual glitches that had to be turned on, manufactured lower FPS rates, and outright lies about the architecture and quality. All so they could sell more GF2MXes (which was what they were competing with, though they could easily stomp GF2 GTSen and in some case even GF2 Ultras.. while costing LESS than a GF2MX).
If ATI timed their card releases like they have been doing, they will win eventually. They just have to keep releasing better, cheaper, gfx cards right after Nvidia launches theirs. Look at what happened with the Radeon 9700, I mean who saw it coming? A card that would spank the GF4 and make it run home to mommy? Who would have thought!
Only thing is, it costs like 200 more then even the top of the line GF4

Guy was pretty cool, he had a system kinda like the one I wanted (cept with 1GB DDR) in the back room so he showed me THPS2 on it. Anyhow, back on topic, I hope somone releases some low poly model packs soon, that would help a ton. Also, I would hope some mappers can run back through their maps and try to optimize them, I used to map for awhile and such blatant abuse of sprites and high r_speeds in high traffic areas would make every old sk00l mapper keel over. Heck if your going to use sprites least make them high enough opacity to actually see without having to squint *cough*(ns_caged come on dooooooown)*cough*
I use a Duron 1ghz with 256mb PC133 memory. I currently run an ATI Radeon AIW 7500. I run the game in 800x600 OpenGL I think.
As long as you run a Geforce2 or Equivalent (ATI 7500) Then you will be fine.
As it is right now ATI is the leader in current High end and Mid range cards. I suggest the ATI 9000Pro. We sell them for $89. The card is made by Sapphire Tech. Http://www.sapphiretech.com. It will out perform all Nvidia G4 MX cards and it has vertex and pixel shaders like the higher end cards. It will definetly be fine for NS.
LoL i read the first post, the answer is the TNT2 is too old. Im running a 1.7 athlon xp and my TNT2 still only manages to push out 20fps. Makes me wonder wether to try it in software mode:P

Heh.. whereas mine's an ATI-official Radeon 9000 Pro (128MB DDR). Got it for about $150. Only problem is.. *don't* set your video memory aperture to 128MB. It screws up, and you don't need it anyway. The one thing the ATI tech support boys missed, and the only reason my machine was glitching at first. Also, IIRC the only nVidia offering that'll beat a 9000 Pro is their top of the line Ti4600. Which cost comparably to a Radeon 9700 Pro, last I looked.. maybe $50 cheaper. But the 9700 is a better buy if you're going for THAT one, as it spanks the nVidia development stuff (GeForce 5) by 25-300% in prototyping benchmarks. ^_^
(Note: AVOID ECS mobos. I went with the ECS K7S5A. First one wouldn't recognize anything on the secondary IDE chain over three-quarters of the time, and the second one wouldn't even POST. No beepcodes, no nothing. Took it back and got the Radeon instead.)
(edit) I'd actually like to see some HIGH-poly packs for NS. And/or some that are Truform-friendly. A turret factory currently looks like a VW Beetle at the moment with Truform on and nPatch set to 1 or 2. Easy enough to fix.. just don't weld the vertices together that you want to have a sharp edge on. Any that are welded get Truform smoothed. (/edit)
Now the above computer was a compaq (**obscenity**) and the motherboard died 3 times in a row. However, under the terms of the warrenty, we got to pic out a brand new computer! ANY MODEL! I LOVE YOU BESTBUY! So, naturally, we (dad and I) picked out an Alienware with the following specs.
Athlon XP 2000+ (1.7ghz) 512mb DDR GeForce 4 TI 4200 128mb (clocked at 4400 speeds) Windows XP pro
Playing NS at 1152x864 32bit color with 8x ansio and Quinqunx AA with 70-100 fps? Priceless!

Think it would work if I went and bought a $200 dollar system, dropped it a few times, then took it back and demanded a top of the line Voodoo?
Ugh. It's still playable though after some tweaking. I run on 1024x768x16 OGL. Wah, what I would give for a nice computer... if only I had the $.
