I know subnautica is set on an ocean world with known land masses to be just a few hundred meters square, but one PDA ingame mentions that the Aurora had "All Terrain Vehicles" onboard (presumably for exploring more land based planets). While an ATV (truck or 4-wheeler) would next to USELESS in game, they are still mentioned by the PDA. It would be funny to find some, download their schematics, and see how many people waste important resources just to watch their newly fabricated truck plunge uselessly into the ocean. XD

"All terrain" would probably make the vehicles anthibious. Or a giant spider walker

I think your trying to spell amphibious.

the aurora was/is a mining vessel sent to build a phase gate I'm guessing using materials mined near the construction site as it doesn't seem like they brought them along too

i thought that it wasn't only the planet that was uncharted but the entire sector which was why they were building a phase gate to make exploration and transportation back and fourth easier

so it would make sense that such a ship would ether carry a land vehicle of some sort or the schematics to build them unless they knew where/ what planets they were going to be mining materials from so i think their should be some kind of surface vehicle like a hovercraft or quad-ski

also surface vehicles like boats ships and hovercrafts move much much faster then subs

A somewhat easy fix would to be to add another room in the Aurora for ground vehicles (with models of the ground vehicles). Let the player scan the vehicles, but dont add a blue print, just some data on the vehicle. Could even have the PDA give the excuse that it didn't store the schematics since its an aquatic planet, since the PDA did a scan of the planet already.

as i sort of said and a few others have pointed out is unless they knew where we were going the equipment brought on the aurora wouldn't have been so specific

Can't you get the prawn onto the floating island via cyclops + jump jets + graple hook?

Wait. A Prawn Can Go On Land. It Has 2 Legs. Meaning It Can Go From The Water To The Land.

aye the prawn technically classifies as an All Terrain Vehicle

To do that, however, you need to get high enough to climb onto the beach, which means you need to go like 80% out of the water for the PRAWN legs to touch, as the floating island doesn't have much of a beach.

You could just build platforms to land the prawn suit on beneath that hole in the middle of the island and stair step upwards.

The issue is the PRAWN is more like a bipedal construction vehicle (thanks to its modular tool arms) primarily a mining vehicle, not an ATV. And its stated to be specifically designed for deep sea use. Its name means "Pressure Re-Active Waterproof Nanosuit".

It does have that one little beach on the far side of the island though, and in the center of the island there's the hole that has a beach.

soldier does make a point the aurora mining vessel and almost all equipment seems specialized for ocean worlds
