December Precursor performance thread

Let's talk about December's Precursor performance impact in this thread. When you start a new game performance is going to be great of course. So we are comparing performance of advanced games. Medium+ or large base, plenty of lockers of stored items , Seamoth and/or PRAWN.

One of the worst performance zones is the super deep area where you get those tear-drop blood things and the brain octopus resides. Will be interesting to see if code changes have made things better, worse, or if it remains the same. I'm deleting my entire game and reinstalling from scratch for this playtest so it will be a while before I can give my own feedback as I won't be using any cheats.

Even at the beginning of the game I'm running with quite a few more fps and its a lot smoother. Catching peepers has never been easier! That said there is still some stutter, but noticably less than there was before. I had just started a new game two days ago so its not just my memory of some long ago beginning either. Same here with starting anew, almost have everything needed before I can get to the island after the first day.

Neat little changes abound with this too, there are new locations for crashfish that are easier to access for the powder and fragments are back to being around the map and not just isolated in wrecks which is nice. There looks like there is more salt deposits in the shallows as well. Lots of rebalancing it looks like.

Is the increased crashiness just on reloading an old game or is it happening with either new or old saves?

Unfortunately, I probably won't be able to contribute any responses any time soon- the scourge of midterms is devouring my free time.

iirc that can happen with updates and old saves in general... Went ahead and reloading my new save 5 times and have not had any crashes. It may be because the save is so new, but my load times are much quicker as well. My average before this update was about 2.5 -3 minutes and now its between 30-40 seconds. A pleasant change to be sure.

    Best of luck on midterms!

I've found the game's performance so far to be much better than it has been. I have, however, been suffering a number of bizarre glitches, some of which I was able to resolve via reloading. For example, I explored the Aurora, only to find that when I entered the living quarters all the floors and walls were missing. A reload brought them back.

I'm still testing but the general impression I get is that the "area reload" stuttering of before is gone while the "area activity" stuttering remains and thereby is more noticeable. Mind that I barely had any stuttering three or so updates ago. I don't experience freezing anymore - it's purely stuttering, although the game still does not close properly.

Not really about performance, but can someone confirm or deny the devs reverted the Seamoth energy consumption? Is that intentional? I've also noticed I can breathe just fine in nonpowered bases, so I'm inclined to think at least something was unintentional.

I'm freezing and crashing quite a bit. That's very unusual for me.

I'd occasionally freeze if piloting my seamoth at speed and the game needed to catch its breath. Almost never crashed. But now it's freezing and crashing regularly.

It does appear to me that they reverted seamoth energy consumption. I couldn't tell you if it's intentional or not, but I'm inclined to think it is. They also make regaining your O2 in the seamoth much much faster. The seaglide appears to still burn energy at the increased rate.
